Yes, I agree that if a twelve year old kid is sitting in the family room and the LGBTIQA Mardi Gras is on the news and the kid's father makes a homophobic comment, and the kid is same-sex attracted, they might think, "Oh, heck, I better not come out to my parents." And not all anti-LGBTIQA bigots are self-loathing, but many are.

There was a guy in one of my classes at school, who, whenever he saw the gay guy, used to remark, "Backs to the wall." That guy is now a tough tradesperson.
