What the...??? Here's something that the pro-life lobby needs to understand. Whenever there is talk of euthanasia, we have the Religious Right loudly proclaiming that only God has the right to end lives. No democracy that has legalized assisted dying has used it as a form of eugenics. What it has been specifically used for is, if somebody is terminally ill, they want the RIGHT to access it rather than a protracted painful death!

In the case of abortion, a foetus cannot decide for itself whether or not it wishes to live. And, you could probably bet London to a brick that if any of these pro-life women were raped and fell pregnant as a result, they would want the right to terminate the pregnancy!

One thing that the pro-life lobby also doesn't understand is this. David Jason was conceived as the result of a rape, as was Ian Smith (the actor who played Harold Bishop in Neighbours, that is, not the last Prime Minister of Southern Rhodesia at the time of its independence and renaming Zimbabwe). Yes, the world would be a sadder place without them, and that's in retrospect, but you couldn't have gone to David Jason's mother and said, "You mustn't have a termination. You will give birth to a baby boy who will play a quirky, unorthodox detective and a bumbling sales assistant, amongst other roles, because nobody knew that at the time. Similarly, Ian Smith's wife said to Peg Kline, "You might already know what he looks like, if you've watched Neighbours." But you couldn't have said to Peg Kline, "You will give birth to a boy who you'll give up for adoption, who'll be a favourite character on Neighbours." They are focused on the potential rather than the actual.

I say, yes, I vehemently disagree with TERFs, and some of their arguments are a nonsense and I'll tell you how. My grandfather used to say that locks were only there to keep bad people out, good people know that you can't enter a home that isn't yours without permission and you don't enter a car that isn't yours, either. A cisgender man who has no harmful intentions towards women knows not to enter a toilet that has a sign on the door that says, "Female," "Women," or "Ladies." I remember reading a story about a woman who was lucky to talk her way out of a rape after a rapist shot her in the back with a crossbow and arrow in the female toilet! Also, they tend to pick extreme examples to make tenuous points!
