We do. If my ancestor had come to Australia 80 years earlier, however, they would have had eight and a half months at sea. The First Fleet went from Portsmouth to the Canary Islands, then to Rio de Janeiro, then to the southern tip of Africa then to Sydney Cove. So, I guess if my ancestors learnt that part of history they had that to be grateful for as they would have probably gone via the Suez Canal and stopped in Colombo and then passed by East Malaysia, then arriving in Brisbane.
