There is a bank in England that has pronouns on a person's nametag. The right-wing are up in arms about it and saying they hope it goes broke, and to that, I say, "No, I hope it gets more customers than ever."
I think it is simply a matter of respect, if someone is referred to as "he" and they correct you and say, "No, they," that you say, "I'm sorry, they." If a person doesn't care, so what. I remember, also, being thought a woman when talking on the phone and my brother's friend's friend thought I was gay.
