That rheumatologist reminds me of a ridiculous doctor I had the misfortune of seeing who doesn't believe that men and women can be platonic friends, who tells patients who go to him for depression, "You need to have goals." Achieving goals can boost your self-esteem and sense of achievement, but as an adjunct not an alternative to treatment. This ridiculous doctor is against antidepressants unless, in his words, they are absolutely necessary, which again, is garbage. There is no shame in taking antidepressants if you need them, and this leads to a stigma.
There has long been an element of misogyny in medicine, and you might think that because of my gendered name, that I am male, but I am a transwoman, and I know what this is like and it's a reason why, for the most part, I prefer female doctors.
