Society has something of an immature stance on people who aren't interested in getting married or having kids. I know a man who was a relief teacher at my old high school, and I see him from time to time because we both have the same GP. He didn't get married until he was 63, and he had people suspecting he was gay because he wasn't married.
Looking through my family history, I have seen that one of my great-uncles, who lived to be 94, didn't marry and I don't think he ever had a girlfriend. He lived with my great-grandmother until she died, and then he lived by himself until he had a fall and needed a hip replacement, and then he went into a nursing home, and he died a year later.
Society should take the attitude that, if you don't want to get married or have sex, that's okay.
I loved the way you wrote this piece.
