Okay, if we start at the beginning, she objected to the term "people who menstruate." And thought it was the erasure of women. Is she right? Well, no. It's not just a transman who hasn't had a hysterectomy who is someone who menstruates, but let's think about this. The age of consent for sex in Japan was 13, I'm not sure if it's been raised, BUT the age of majority in Japan is 20, so a Japanese female may menstruate from the age of 11 or 12, but she is not a woman until she reaches majority. In Australia, the age of majority is 18, but an Australian female who menstruates at the age of 13 is not a woman.
Most people who purport to support free speech do not follow the belief, "I disagree with what you say, but I defend to my death your right to say it," they selectively apply the voices that they want amplified, be they popular or unpopular.
And there are people a hell of a lot more dangerous than JK Rowling, too. What we have to remember is JK Rowling is not in government, JK Rowling doesn't make or vote on policy, she's an author who has a social platform. If you want to see people who are a hell of a lot more dangerous than JK Rowling, look on the other side of the Atlantic at the idiot who was in the Oval Office for four years. Even outside of the Oval Office, he has stacked the court with conservative judges who overturned Roe versus Wade, and that same idiot wanted to wind back protections for transgender folks, and some states in the USA already have!
The thing about women's only spaces is, a man does NOT have to transition and nor does he need a gender certificate saying that he's a woman to be able to access women only spaces. I remember reading the story of a woman in a shopping complex, and there have been many others, who went into the toilet and as she was washing her hands at the basin, a man carrying a crossbow fired an arrow that stabbed her in the back narrowly missing her kidneys, and he would have raped her, had she not been able to talk to him and finally, the arrival of someone else in the toilets saw him fled!
As someone in the trans community, hell, Adam Bryson does NOT represent me or anything I agree with, but the danger is, extremists cherry pick.
