Murderers, especially those who murder children, don't have an easy time in prison. In Australia, there was a case of a female child killer (along with her husband) who had prisoners urinate in her food and put razor blades in her soap. There was another child killer, this time male, who had boiling water poured down the back of his neck.

One of Kaylin's arguments against prison, that has been mentioned by others, is that sometimes people become institutionalised. The problem, however, with some prisoners, is this. They have access to programs that reform them, they have access to university courses and trade training, but some just believe it's too hard on the outside and would prefer to stay in prison. And the problem is attitude. You can say to a prisoner on their second morning in prison, "Okay, you have a choice. You can reform in here, and have a successful, happy life on the outside, or you can get into the revolving door system," but it won't make any difference.
