I turned down my school formal in order to study. Had I gone to it, I'd have said to my mother, "Okay, the first tuxedo that suits me at a reasonable price, we'll hire, then, we'll buy a bow tie and cummerbund in a colour I like. Then, on the day, a haircut, a shave, shower and brush my teeth, and I'll be ready." Anything else would have taxed my reserves.
