I, too, use quotations from shows and movies when I speak. I refer to the police as "Old Bill". For me, though, it's more a matter of wanting to be polite. For example, one day my mother yelled out asking me where I was and I replied, "I'm having a Jimmy." She had no idea what I meant. I have adopted a lot of English slang, such as "butty" for sandwich. A lot of people ask me if I'm English and an English person replied, "It's not he way you sound but the way you speak that can make people believe that. For example, you say, "How are you, today? Would you like a cup of tea?" rather than, "How ya goin', Mate? Wanna cuppa?""
I sometimes struggle with tone and do struggle with pitch in the voice and reading between the lines. I also often have trouble discerning the difference between a reason and an excuse.
