I remember a man, who was the inspiration for a story I wrote, who was very racist and used terms a hell of a lot more offensive than Oriental.

What I say to most people regarding the racism sweeping parts of the world today, is this, people can be Chinese but not necessarily come from China. Well, their ancestry may be Chinese, but they may be from Taiwan, Hong Kong (pre-1997), Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand or other places. And some are even fourth generation American, Canadian or Australian.

The other thing we need to remember is, the first known case of COVID19 may have come from a wet market in Wuhan, but not even the latest incantation of McCarthyism could suggest it was a deliberate plot and have any credibility. And, we have to remember that you cannot blame Asian people for COVID19!
