I have been infantilsed by doctors on numerous occasions. At nearly 50, I have only had one GP with whom I felt comfortable. I remember seeing a ridiculous doctor who believes that men and women cannot be platonic friends, regardless of sexual orientation! This ridiculous doctor has now written several books. His writing style is condescending, too. I remember being annoyed because he spoke to me in this manner, "Right, the glands first." "Hello, I'm 22 and I know that they're lymph nodes." Then, holding a tongue depressor in one hand and an otoscope in the other says, "Just open your mouth and I'll have a little look down your throat," in a tone suggestive of addressing a five-year-old. "Hello, what do you think I think you're going to do?" This doctor also is opposed to the use of antidepressants unless absolutely necessary and projects his own beliefs onto others. I also had a terrible neurologist who did not have the patience to understand the nuances of situations and overshadowed diagnosis.

I also tend to get on better with female doctors (I'm a transwoman) and doctors from a CALD background. My GP is Malaysian, and I get on well with her.
