I don't want to quibble over a minor detail, but the Bundestag is the German word for Parliament. For some history, in November, 1923, Hitler attempted to stage a coup or a putsch, to overthrow the Weimar Republic. The coup was quickly dispersed, Hitler arrested and charged with treason. The judge was sympathetic to the Nazi cause and Hitler was sentenced to five years imprisonment of which he served nine months, during which, he wrote Mein Kampf (My Struggle). Despite serving in the German Army in World War One, Hitler did not become a German citizen until 1932. Hitler stood for the office of President and was soundly defeated by Marshal Paul von Hindenburg. On January 30, 1933, a reluctant Hindenburg asked Hitler to become Chancellor. He was allowed to form a government with three Nazi Cabinet Ministers. The following year, after Hindenburg died, Hitler merged the offices of Chancellor and President and declared himself der Fuhrer. The Bundestag became known as the Reichstag.
