He wasn't a nice person to know, either. He believed that the police should have the power to shoot armed robbers once they have surrendered. He wanted to join the police force but he lacked the educational requirements and the psychological test should have sent alarm bells ringing in about 10 seconds. I remember my father telling me about a young police woman who'd come face to face with a man who had just robbed a bank and she panicked, dropped her revolver and ran, leaving her colleague to deal with the robber. Neither extreme is desirable but I can say, having heard a police shooting 50 metres down the road, if I never hear another police shooting again, it'll be a day too soon.
