A YEAR ON.
When I was six, I remember my grandfather telling me, when a program came on, that featured people eating snails, that that day, July 14, was Bastille Day. It was a day when people immersed themselves in French culture in recognition of the storming of the Bastille, a prison not where society’s worst were held but where many innocent people were held, and from there began the French Revolution.
Fast-forward 231 years, and we have people storming the Capitol, in Washington DC, calling for then Vice-President, Mike Pence, a man whom I don’t particularly like, to be hanged. His crime? Certifying the election result that declared Joe Biden the President!
Claims of faulty voting machines and electoral fraud were investigated and found to be baseless. These were revealed to be little more than a desperate man, who knew that he could not have a criminal prosecution brought against him whilst he held the highest elected office in the land. The same as the narrative that the election was stolen! No, it wasn’t, people turned out to vote and voted him out.
Fortunately, whatever people say about Joe Biden, the US is now back on a more sane and safe course. The US is back in the WHO and back in the Paris Agreement (thank heavens) and it no longer has a COVID19 and climate change denier in the role of President (again, thank goodness!).
This year, the US will be facing its mid-terms, and let us hope that the country will have a Democrat-controlled House of Reps and a Democrat controlled Senate, and hopefully, in 2024, Biden will receive another term.
There were enough attacks on the US under trump without having another right-wing buffoon in the Presidency!
