A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION, A LITTLE MORE ACTION.

Now that the January 6 Committee has recommended charges be laid against Trump, it is time for people to wrap their heads around a few facts. The right-wingers will accuse us of hypocrisy, but they fail to understand the deeper issues at play.

The only US President to serve two non-consecutive terms was Grover Cleveland. And no US President who has failed to win a second term has stood before a microphone and yelled that an election was stolen or claimed that there was widespread voter fraud or faulty voting machines.

What needs to also be remembered is, even conservative judges and some appointed by Trump have come back and said that his claims were unsubstantiated and false.

What needs to be remembered here is, it doesn’t matter which side of the political fence you are on, or what your personal opinion of Trump is, the questions that need to be asked are, “Is there enough evidence to prosecute Trump?” Well, the committee has ruled that there is. And then, if or when the case goes to court, “Is there enough evidence to convict him?” This is not a verdict on Trump’s agenda or Trump’s performance in the White House. This is about whether or not be incited a riot.

What needs to be remembered also, is this, Adolf Hitler engaged in a putsch to overthrow the Weimar Republic and was convicted of treason, the following year and sentenced to five years imprisonment, of which he served nine months. A riot occurred in the Capitol to overturn an election result. The Weimar Republic was unconditional democracy imposed upon a country used to strong and charismatic leaders, like Otto von Bismarck or Kaiser Wilhelm, Trump did not win the popular vote, in 2016, he was elected by the Electoral College. Trump claimed that the election was stolen because he believed a second term was his by right and he demonstrated an even greater disrespect of the democratic process than Hitler. He was also aware that while he was President, there could be none of the investigations of the past two years. Of course, Hitler’s aim was to make himself the leader, and he knew that if he couldn’t take it by force, he had to do it by vote. Trump couldn’t win a second term by vote, so his supporters tried to get him one by force!

We have all had our frustrations with the Attorney-General, but I know he had to dot his I’s and cross his T’s, but now that the committee has reported its findings, it’s time for a little less conversation and a little more action. Trump has had a verdict on his Presidency passed at the election, now it’s time for a verdict on his actions in subverting the democratic process.
