A day I remember indelibly is July 7, 1986. It was the day that one British-Australian and one Australian, Kevin Barlow and Geoffrey Chambers, respectively, were hanged in Malaysia. I understood that Malaysian laws are Malaysian laws, but I did not believe the hanging was just. The more I learnt about the case, the more I thought, though, that Barlow was the one who did not deserve to hang. Chambers was the more experienced drug runner, so he knew the risks, Barlow, however, was on worker's compensation due to injury and had little prospect of work. He was tempted by easy money.
